Demo server offline until EC2 costs less
Just saw that my usage bill from the EC2 instances was over $400 since I started that up not too long ago. Therefore it is not a cost effective method to use for a demo application. I’ll be recording a walk-through of using the application soon so that new users can see what Kontrollbase offers without requiring me to foot the bill for EC2 or a colocated server.

Hi Matt
The prob with EC2 is indeed the cost variability, which in many cases outweighs the flexibility gained elsewhere. It’s a risk many companies are not willing to take.
Linode might be a good option… fixed cost per month per server, and it has a complete API so you can even automatically deploy additional capacity should you want to do so.

This is why I avoid all “cloud” services like the plague.

Thanks for the reference to Linode Arjen, I’ll be checking them out shortly.

Eventually one or two will come along and offer the same services and scalability and stability but for a reasonable cost. In addition, Amazon should give new users an idea of how much their bill will be for average use, high use, and 100% load – that way people don’t get suckered into thinking it won’t cost too much as is what occurred in my case. I know the pricing docs are there somewhere but they make it look like it will be much cheaper than it turns out to be.
